Hey Bookish People,
I’m actually a little surprised that it took me this long to remember to review Tools of Titans: The Tactics, Routines, and Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World Class Performers by Tim Ferriss. This book is divided up into three sections: healthy, wealthy, and wise. In those sections Tim takes past interviews he’s done for his podcast (which is excellent if you’ve never listened) and gives you the best information from each interview.
I initially thought the book would feel repetitive since I’ve heard most, if not all, of the interviews on the podcast but I found it highly interesting to read those interviews and be able to compare and contrast them. There are common themes throughout the interviews and tons of good advice, great quotes, and inspiring stories. This book is one I’d recommend reading more than once. I’ve read it twice (and skimmed it a few others) and depending on what’s going on in my life I find that different things stand out to me at different times.
This book is not a short read but I found that it goes fast once you get sucked into the interviews. I will admit that I didn’t find the ‘health’ section particularly engaging but I’m also not that into sports or healthy lifestyle reading. Yet, even amongst those interviews I found interesting information and tips to improve my life.
I was drawn to Tim’s section on his morning routine (I’m always trying to make mine better) and a section on the 17 questions that changed his life. His interviews with Derek Sivers and Scott Adam were the interviews I found most interesting the last time I read it but I think it’s a little different each time.
Overall I have to recommend this book. My copy is bookmarked, highlighted, and annotated. I pull it out when times are tough and I read it when I feel like I want to make a dramatic change. There is just something really appealing about having the wisdom of so many people in one place. I hope you like it as much as I do!
